About
Matteo Montero-Murillo (also known as Mueritos online) is a trans and gay artist and social worker living in Philadelphia, PA. He is a de-tribalized mixed indigenous Mexican with ancestry in rural Guanajuato, Mexico. He has been drawing since he could hold a pencil and finds creative outlets in not just art but in music, graphic design, fashion, and more. Matteo juggles being a freelance artist and a recently graduated Master's of Social Work student from Boston University, hoping to bridge his love of art with social work practice. He also has a BA in Spanish with a minor in Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies from Moravian University, where he completed a year long research project on transmasculine perceptions of sex and sex education.
He is interested in making radical and provocative art and comics. He does not shy away from anarchist, de-colonial, and queer-inclusive themes in his art. He loves magical realism, comics, alternative music, and most importantly-cats. He has several years of experience creating comics and digital art for himself and others.
Matteo also enjoys working within the social work field, both as a researcher and therapist. His clinical interests reside in queer theory, abolition/non-carceral frameworks, unpacking shame, repairing harm, and helping individuals live as their authentic selves. As a research assistant, he had the opportunity to create several graphics for the CoHeal Lab, an anti-oppressive research team based in Boston, MA. He is available for work creating research briefs for students, researchers, professors, and more.
